Meeting after Meeting
Afton has been home over the weekend and in a good mood. We are working really hard to keep her hydrated and maintain her bile bag (attached to her hip). As of today we have officially met with all the necessary doctors and it sounds like Afton’s only option at this point is to be re-transplanted. This means that there are no treatments left to help her current liver along.
So, by the end of this week or maybe early next week, Afton will officially be waiting for another liver. We are hoping and praying that she stays healthy during this wait and if we are lucky maybe she will even gain some weight.
She has another surgery on Wed where they will again attempt to find a passage into her bowel. If they can do this successfully, she will not need to have her bile drain outside her body. If they cannot find the passage, which is sounding the most likely, she will have to continue to drain her bile outside her body. Either result will not change her need for a new liver.
