Afton is home. All things considered, the length of time we spent at the hospital was less then we expected. Afton healed well and was in good spirits at the end of her stay. She loved the car ride home and enjoys her familiar surroundings.
For us this is really only the beginning, however. The next few days and weeks are crucial to determine the new liver’s ability to thrive. Given that there was a known problem with the new liver’s function –even thought it never manifested the way the doctors expected– we are taking each day at a time, and every day we get behind us is a step towards Afton’s new, better life.
We know the road ahead of us will be a rough one. This is almost a certain fact. But we hope that we can avoid the major bumps that have ramifications beyond just getting Afton feeling better again.
For now, our little girl is doing great in her new life. We thank everyone for your thoughts and help through this.
